HOUSTON (June 21, 2018) – Attorney Jaime Tijerina has been appointed judge of the 93rd Judicial District Court by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. His term will expire on Dec. 31, 2018 or until his successor is elected. Tijerina, a native of McAllen, Texas, earned his Juris Doctor degree in 1985 from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. “We are extremely proud of Judge Tijerina and excited about his new appointment to the bench. Over the years, he has done much to distinguish himself since graduating from TMSL. He has left an indelible mark in helping citizens over the years throughout Hidalgo and Kinney counties as deputy city attorney and county attorney. His TMSL family wishes him continued success,” said Gary L. Bledsoe, acting dean of Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Tijerina’s appointment comes after serving as deputy city attorney for three years in Mission, Texas. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the College of the State Bar, fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the Texas Prosecutor’s Society, a former member and director of the Texas District and County Attorneys Association, and board secretary for the Food Bank RGV. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from The University of Texas Pan American. Dean Bledsoe also praised Tijerina for his years of service in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) program. “Judge Tijerina and so many of our TMSL alumni in the Rio Grande Valley continue to bring honor to the judiciary bench and the practicing bar through their varied public service roles throughout South Texas and beyond,” he said.
